Map view
Map view plots every facility you searched, together with the weather stations pulled for them, on a simple US map drawn to fit your query.
State borders are always shown; county borders appear once the area is small enough to make them useful (they would be noise across a wide, multi-state query), which is the usual case for a single operating area. A short readout under the map notes the approximate north–south span and whether counties are being shown.
Pins, dots, and leader lines
Each facility is a labelled pill bordered in the color of the most critical flag it shows — the same pink > red > blue scale as its grid box. When the facility also trips a Custom Alert threshold, its identifier is underlined in orange (the pill border still shows the ceiling/visibility flag).
Every facility and station is anchored by a small colored dot at its true position on the map (a facility dot takes its flag color; a station dot is a muted blue-grey). When facilities sit close together, their labels would overlap, so a label is nudged aside for readability and a thin leader line links it back to its dot — the dot always marks the real location, at every zoom, even when the label is offset.
Stations & dedup
Reporting stations are drawn as separate muted pills (dashed outline, monospaced) and joined to the facility by a thin dashed line, so you can see where each estimate is coming from. When several facilities share one nearby station, that station is drawn once. If a facility you searched is itself a reporting station (for example, an airport entered directly), it isn't drawn twice — the facility pill stands in for the station, and any other facility drawing weather from it connects to that pill.
Opening a report
Click a facility pill to open its full METAR/TAF detail, the same modal you get from a grid box. Click a station pill to open that station's own report in the same modal layout — its own METAR and TAF, shown for its own field with no elevation adjustment applied. (If the station was pulled only for a nearby facility's forecast, its current METAR is loaded on demand when you open it, so it's still there to read. Should that load fail, the tool says the report couldn't be retrieved and retries — it does not tell you the station has no METAR, which for a TAF-issuing station would almost never be true.)
Zoom & pan
Use the + / − buttons in the top-right of the map, or the mouse wheel over the map, to zoom in and out; the wheel zooms toward the cursor. The ⊞ button re-frames to fit everything. When zoomed in, drag to pan (mouse or one finger) — panning is bounded to the mapped area, so you can recenter on any facility and then zoom further with the buttons, but you can't drift off into blank map. Zooming in also brings in county borders once the area is small enough. A new search always re-frames to fit its own facilities.
The map draws entirely from the facility and station positions already returned by your search — it makes no additional weather requests, and like everything else here it keeps nothing between sessions.
